Move Fast and Break Things: AI to secure competitive advantages!

In an ever-changing business environment, companies not only are competing to acquire a substantial market share but also are involved in securing a competitive advantage. However, the old philosophy of maintaining lead is more difficult than reaching the top significantly applies here. Companies, these days secure competitive advantage but fail to transform it into a sustainable competitive advantage. Now what actually is a sustainable competitive advantage and how it differs from a temporary competitive advantage?

The terms, themselves, are self-explanatory where temporary competitive advantage doesn’t last long and is imitable whereas sustainable competitive advantage lasts longer and establishes the unique position of the companies in the market. Such a unique position of companies correlates with the struggle for acquiring unique resources and such unique resources of the current era are certainly the Internet of Things (IoT)!

But can technologies replace humans? More about this on this page .

Artificial intelligence through IoT provides real-time algorithms for analyzing consumer demands and managing inventory and related tasks. Companies these days are speeding up to keep up. Looking for instance at Amazon, AI accounts for 35% of the company’s revenue where its AI features are projected to increase consumer engagement by 40%. Similarly, Tencent, the gaming giant in China has recognized the opportunity of 30% digital ad growth in China and adopted AI in marketing. Frito Lay, a champion in the food and beverages industry, utilized AI as a hedge against the COVID-19 pandemic and ramped up its five years digital plan in 30 days. Artificial Intelligence, has certainly eliminated the information gaps within organizations where 84% of executives already agree that AI adoption has not only maximized their work efficiency, can personalize the consumer experience, can make transactions more secure, and more importantly, it is equipped with behavioural pattern detection that can act as a smart tool for future demand forecasting proving to be another unbeatable source of sustainable competitive advantage.

Artificialization of humans? Focusing on Elon Musk's Neuralink!

Forgetting things is the most common issue that we face during our lives where an average human forgets 40% of what he has learned in the first 20 minutes and 77% of that in 6 days. What if we come up with a solution that not only allows us to upload memories but also stores them as a backup and retrieves them whenever we want? Such a statement seems like the wishful thinking of an average human being but artificial intelligence goes several steps ahead from not only specializing in memory loss but also spinal cord injuries, brain damage, blindness, and overcoming cognitive disabilities in a population that makes up 10% of only the United States. Back in 2016, Elon Musk envisioned Neuralink which designs an implantable device into the brain made up of thin fibers carrying electrodes ensuring communication between different parts of the body. Musk defines it  “like a Fitbit in your skull.” However, there are ever-increasing concerns of singularity revolving ...

Can AI replace humans?

With the advent of technology, conventional workplaces are converting into digital workplaces. Interestingly, 27% of the companies consider it a matter of survival where the contribution of AI to global GDP is expected to surpass $15.7 trillion by 2030 . Imagining the massive influence of these technologies on our societies can be a fair deal in light of such statistics.  The 3D movies and games depicting the rule of robotics on our planet have tampered with our imagination to such an extent that conflicting debates projecting robots as the replacement of humans have been ignited. A longer list of events where AI has defeated humans is circulating on the internet including 1996–1997 Kasparovv. Deep Blue, 2013 DeepMind Beats Atari, 2017 AlphaZero Masters Chess, Go, andShogi, and 2019 Alphastars . _Still, looking for an example of AI in your daily life?? Your search engine, the widely acknowledged Alexa, and face detection on your cell phones have made it highly intriguing whethe...

Do computers plus humans do better than either one alone?

We are fascinated with robots because they are reflections of ourselves Ken Goldberg Being a science fiction fan, I have always remained inspired by the characters like Rodney Copperbottom, Piper pinwheeler, and obviously the Optimus Prime from Transformers. These characters are an excellent manifestation of human imagination of befriending robots and stepping into the domain of augmented reality. As a piece of evidence, global corporate giants are investing substantially in acquiring AI with the global AI market reaching 327.5 B USD in 2021.  The innovations like self-driving cars from Tesla, the City Brain Project of Alibaba, Amazon Go, and smart personal assistants like Cortana that literally is a click away on my desktop are enthralling human societies. Despite such an evident human aspiration, AI is now projected to confront human boundaries that, arguably, is a simulation of human intelligence. This is the point where the concept of Human-AI symbiosis comes into a...
